I'm starting to close in on the concept that Agile Project Management as actually Systems Engineering. The picture here is the relationships between agile processes and Systems Engineering as defined at the Systems Design and Operational Effectiveness Program at Stevens Institute of Technology.
The approach here is to integrate process development with product development within the Systems Engineering discipline. The result is a seamless connection between agile processes and the systems engineering disciplines found in the well documented sources.
As well the long running debate in the PMI realm regarding the separation of process from product is now moot. Even though some authors closed this gap there was also a sore point from the purist stating that the PM processes are independent from the product being built. No matter, this is now closed in the paradigm of Systems Engineering.
Finally, the conjectured "new paradigm" of Agile Project Management and the DoI now has an academic foundation from which to have a discussion.
