When asked the question "what do project managers do," one answer I start with is to ask a few of the 16 questions from the Project Breathalyzer, in retorical form.
These chart (B or C size) is posted on the office door of all the project managers that are in my group. When they leave the Plan of the Day (POD), the breathalyzer test is the next step in assuring that progress is made for the day, the week, the month, and the "period of performance" for the project.
This has served me well over the years. It may serve you as well.
