It's been a week of reading books for work. I'm deep into Effective Risk Management: Some Keys to Success, Second Edition, Edmund H. Conrow, AIAA Press, 2003. This book is a comprehensive discussion of technical and programmatic risk management. It is a practice based presentation of the topic for project and technical issues.
The risk management processes include: Planning, Identification, Analysis, Handling, and Monitoring. These are seemingly simple terms and are covered in a variety of other texts, including PMBOK. But this book is a practice book. Within it's 518 very densely packed pages are the details of how to actually perform risk management. Not from the view of an observer or high level adviser, but from the detailed instructions.
There are more than 700 risk management "tips" that are supported by explicit narrative. Other risk books provide background and overviews, but this book is a superset of those texts.
If you're going to buy a risk management book. This is the one.
