I've been spending every free moment on my bike and taking a break from Program Management this weekend, when our local group is riding Elephant Rock this Sunday. Our small group includes nearly all techie riders from Microsoft, Trident Energy, Texas Instruments, Seagate, Fidelity-Comtech, Lockheed Martin, Ball Aerospace and an Internet grocery delivery start up.
Lot's of tech talk along the way, between the lung busting climbs and the 45MPH decents.
Elephant Rock is the beginning of the session for us, with other rides to follow. We've picked The Buffalo Classic as our second one. The top ride of the summer is Ride the Rockies, but that requires too much time away from work and more conditioning training than I'm capable of at my age. The ultimate goal for any Colorado rider is the Triple Bypass with covers 120 miles and 11,000 feet of elevation gain. with the biggest pass topping out at 11,400 feet. Maybe some day.
All of this effort goes to the heart of project management on the training side. Planned miles per week, energy intact planning, training route planning to make sure enough hills are included, while not over training and still getting in enough LSD (long steady distance) miles to put on the strength needed to push at the end of 100 miles up that last 1,000 foot gain to most finishes.
