I just finished
- Herding Chickens: Innovative Techniques for Project Managment, Dan Bradbary and David Garrett
- Flawless Execution: Use the Techniques and Systems of America's Fighter Pilots to Perform at Your Peak and Win the Battles of the Business World, James D.Murphy
Both are in that must read category. Both can be finished in a weekend.
Herding Chickens
This is a collection of essays on managing projects. Managing projects from a practical point of view. Hard, cold advice to project managers. It's one of the books you'll skim through then come back days or weeks later and discover a new idea.
Flawless Execution
Is a more difficult book to read. It needs a bit more copy editing to improve the consistency of the themes. But it is a powerful book all the same. Based on an F-15 pilot paradigm, it show how strategy is the key to success in any business venture. This is restating the obvious, but this book speaks to the actual doing of the strategy-making process.
