All instruction is but a finger pointing to the moon; and those whose gaze is fixed upon the pointer will never see beyond. Even let him catch sight of the moon, and still he cannot see its beauty.
When we hear or read about this way or that of solving a problem, let's not confuse the method used to solve the problem with the actual solution to the problem.
I see this often.
"If we only would apply this style of solution to the problem in front of us, we could solve all these annoying outcomes"
"If you only adopted this or that method, you're problem would go away"
"If you only followed my direction or experience in this domain, your problems in this other domain would be solved."
So when we're looking for solutions, the instructional aspects are important. But more importantly is the application of that instruction in practice, where tangible beneficial outcomes can be verified to appear in response to the instruction.
