There is lots of discussion about applying agile development in an Earned Value project domain. The inverse is discussed as well but not with the same intensity - applying Earned Value in the agile domain.
Here is small sample of how Earned Value and agile can be connected.
Earned Value | Agile |
Progress measured as physical percent complete | 100% working software at the end of each iteration |
Planned deliverables define what DONE looks like | Iteration's deliverables are agreed to before starting |
Past performance forecasts future performance | Burndown charts used to forecast future performance |
Some on our team are developing the notion that Agile software development techniques can be applied on Earned Value projects. The abstract of the paper is due late August, more to come.
