Aaron Smith of Projects@Work, tweeted that the GAO report INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Critical Factors Underlying Successful Major Acquisitions provides 9 success factors for government IT projects.
Agile is mentioned for several of the projects:
- Veterans Affairs Occupational Health Record-keeping System
- Defense Global Combat Support System-Joint Increment 7
As well DISA (Defense Information Systems Agency) officials stated that the use of Agile software development was critical to the success of the program. Among other things, Agile enhanced the participation of the end users in the development process and provided for capabilities to be deployed in shorter periods of time.
I recently participated in a webinar with Management Concepts where we discussed Agile and the Federal government. This reports shows what is being done. Our webinar showed that it can be done. The next webinars and eventually a course will show how it can be done, including the integration of Earned Value Management for federal IT projects.
