When we speak about "master" schedules in the space and defense business, this is what they look like. These types of "pictures" are all too common in the commercial world. In the defense business they look notional, but they are build from the underlying Integrated Master Plan and Integrated Master Schedule.
There are several tools that can make these charts from the Integrated Master Schedule. This approach ensures that the dates, dependencies, and top level process flow is represented correctly all the way down to the Control Accounts and Work Packages that on in the Performance Measurement Baseline.
There is no issue with having these types of Program Master Schedules for any project as long as they are connected to real baselined data.
