There are several (or at least two) ways to show that the schedule is pushing to the right of a planned completion date. FINISH NOT LATER THAN or MUST FINISH ON and a DEADLINE.
Here's the two ways in MSFT Project.
I prefer the DEADLINE for several reasons:
- The planned finish - the DEADLINE is always visible - and is described by the DEADLINE
- The actual finish is also always visible,in this case showing to the right of the planned finish.
With the DEADLINE approach the schedule is free (dynamic) to move during the Monte Carlo Simulation used for the Schedule Risk Assessment (DI-MGMT-81650).
The concept of a dynamic schedule, free to move left or right at all times is a critical success factor for any credible schedule.
