Project management is a collection of techniques for proposing, planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating projects, combined with the management of the people executing the project. It is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to a broad range of activities to meet the specified requirements of a particular project.
The processes, methods, skills, knowledge, and experience of project management are applied to achieve specific project objectives according to the project acceptance criteria within agreed parameters.
The key difference between project management and just 'management' is that project management has final deliverables and a finite timespan, unlike management which is an ongoing process. Because of this, a project professional needs a wide range of skills; often technical skills, and certainly people management skills, and good business awareness.
